We are a small public library maintained by the Town of Red River for use by its residents, visitors and surrounding communities. We have an excellent selection of popular fiction and keep most bestsellers on our shelves. We also have a wide variety of non-fiction works of local and regional interest, and a large audiobook, VHS and DVD collection. We maintain a small but quality collection of general non-fiction, periodicals, and children's and young adults' books. We do allow non-residents to check out our materials and there is no charge for a library card. There is a drop box for after hours returns.
We also have an historical photo collection in our Southwest room that is available for viewing year round, in addition to an historical mining website on a local computer also found in that room.
We are located at 702 E. Main, Red River, New Mexico. We are right by the "Y" where the road divides to go to Eagle Nest.
We have nine public access computer terminals - all with productivity software, as well as two children's computers with educational games and programs. That includes a dedicated online catalog terminal and an historical Red River mining website presentation on one. The only charge is a nominal one for printouts. All the computers with web access are connected to the color laser printer.
There is no particular time limit on usage unless there are people waiting, then there is a half hour limit per patron.
We now offer high speed wireless connection for people with their own laptops. It is available inside during regular hours and 24 hours a day outside with seating and power on our patio.
We have internet access on five of our public computers. While there is no charge to patrons for internet use, there are some restrictions as to their use and they are filtered in compliance with the Child Protection Act. We do allow visitors to check and respond to their online email through a browser.
We also have online database subscriptions covering a wide variety of subjects available to the public at no charge. The databases include search engines allowing searches by publication, date, subject, etc. They can be accessed from the online catalog, the library machines or by residents anywhere in New Mexico from our link page by clicking on the appropriate links and typing in the user ID or password as indicated - some are case sensitive, so be sure and type them exactly as they appear on the link.
You can reach us at 575-754-6564 or rrlib@newmex.com. Kerry Shepherd is the librarian and the person to contact with questions. Our mailing address is P.O. Box 1020, Red River NM 87558.
